TAPKO CEO Petar Tomic explores the historical roots of karate in Okinawa

The fruitful cooperation between the German Karate Association (DKV) and Okinawa Prefecture has written a remarkable chapter in the history of karate.

This groundbreaking partnership enabled the intensive exchange of masters and students between Okinawa and Germany, which can undoubtedly be considered a milestone in the world of karate.

The grandmasters from Okinawa have already had the opportunity to visit the DKV at important events such as the DKV Day and Bundes-Karate-Bund Event. Now, as hosts, they opened their doors and shared their unique culture and outstanding karate techniques for a week.

Among the travellers, was TAPKO CEO Petar Tomic, accompanied by his wife Daniela Heuschmann, also a passionate karateka. The Okinawa Karate seminar extended over several intensive days, during which the participants were instructed by the Okinawa Grandmasters. They had the unique opportunity to take DAN exams up to 8th DAN in SOK and up to 5th DAN in Shorin Ryu Seibukan.

Away from the intensive karate training, Petar Tomic and other karateka immersed themselves in the rich culture and history of Okinawa. This included visits to historical sites such as the "Kaitan" Museum and an impressive guided tour of the majestic "Shuri Castle". In an interview, Petar Tomic enthusiastically stated, "This trip allowed me to deepen my understanding of the centuries-old culture and live my passion for karate in a unique way. It was an unforgettable opportunity to learn from the grandmasters and the fascinating culture of Okinawa."

The cooperation between the DKV and Okinawa remains an outstanding example of the global spread and cultural exchange of karate. It will undoubtedly further strengthen the relationship between Germany and Okinawa and promote passion for this traditional martial art worldwide.
