KAIstack with RL78 -
basis for your KNX application

Embedded system designs that employ KAIstack and the Renesas microcontroller RL78 gain access to the powerful, yet easy-to-use technology platform KAI (KNX Advanced Interface) for KNX enabled bus devices.

The RL78 microcontroller with high processing performance delivers the lowest power consumption in it's class. Up to 32 MHz CPU clock operation is possible. Built-in features such as "reset circuit", "low voltage detection circuit", "watchdog timer", and "data flash with background operation function" help to lower the total cost of building a KNX system and contribute to more compact size and lower power consumption. KAIstack provides full KNX functionality needed for end devices.

KAIstack contains all elements required by the KNX standard and is already KNX certified in many configurations. KAIstack is implemented in close dependence on the ISO/OSI reference model. The clear structure separates between application relevant parts, modular communication stack internal parts, media dependent parts and target CPU related issues. Advanced implementation methods allow highly efficient coding for optimized resource usage. This is shown in a small footprint. An application development with KAIstack relieves the burden of early decisions in the design process by simple configurability of the stack. It helps increase system reliability and improves device stability. All hardware and software components of KAI can principally be adapted according to given conditions.

Evaluation board for KAIstack with RL78

The evaluation boards for KAIstack with RL78 MCU provides all that is necessary to develop efficient KNX devices. The introduction of “Media Modules” gives the possibility to change the used communication media, during product development or even at a later moment. For the supported media (KNX-TP, KNX-RF and KNX-IP) we offer several different modules per media: TP-UART, TP-UART galvanic isolation, TP-UART2, E981.03, NCN5110, KAIphys RF: SX1211, and others in preparation.
Push-buttons, LEDs and all MCU signals routed on pin header with standardized connections to “Media Modules” provide an excellent development and test platform.
